Cancellation Policy

An important part of the therapeutic relationship is both parties' commitment to attending weekly sessions, as missed sessions will impact therapy progress.

Therapy sessions are scheduled in advance and are at a time reserved exclusively for one person. When a session is canceled, it is impossible to fill this time slot by offering it to someone else.

For these reasons, you will be charged for each session in the month, and canceled sessions will still need to be paid for.

It is possible to request an appointment change based on availability with more than 24 hours’ notice should something come up to prevent you from attending your scheduled session that week.

If you wish to take a break from therapy, you will need to notify me two weeks in advance.

Payment Terms

Payment should be made before your session. You can either do this week by week or for the whole month at the beginning of the month before the first session. Please use your name as a reference

Confidentiality

Each therapy session is confidential, following ethical guidelines.

Part of the psychotherapy process involves supervision, where certain aspects of your sessions may be discussed with an accredited and qualified supervisor who is also bound by these confidentiality guidelines.

However, in both cases, some limitations arise from a legal obligation to protect people from harm. If you are concerned about your safety or the safety of others, we will discuss this before any action is taken.

Virtual Therapy Limits

Please note that I am based in Portugal. However, I am registered as a social worker and psychotherapist in New York State, USA. The online counseling offered here does not constitute psychotherapy in the sense of NYS psychotherapy regulations. While online psychotherapy has been well-established for many years in some countries, laws in NY and the USA are just starting to change.

Furthermore, online counseling cannot offer adequate support in all cases. Some problems, especially acute psychological crises and serious mental health diagnoses, require in-person and long-term treatment. Please get in touch with a licensed mental health clinician in your area in these cases. If you are in acute distress, contact emergency services.
